Begonia pavonina is a rhizomatous species from Malaysia. The leaves are dark bronze and red on the back. The flowers are light pink. When it is grown in low light the leaves have an attractive iridescent blue sheen to them. One of the common names for this species is “Peacock Begonia.”. This species grows along streams in the higher elevations of Malaysia. It does like high humidity and air movement. It needs to be grown in a terrarium or humid greenhouse.
Habitat:
1. This Begonia is happiest in temperatures between about 55 to 95 degrees.
2. It prefers slightly alkaline soil.
3. High humidity.
