Description

The Orchid Vampire Crab (Geosesarma dennerle var. White Leg) is a small, very colorful, semi-terrestrial species that is native to Java, Indonesia. It inhabits forest areas near streams, rivers, and ponds. It spends most of its time on land, but also often submerges in freshwater, including when it molts. It is communal with its own species, and males typically are larger than females, and also have much larger claws.

Appearance:

• Carapace: Deep purple to light purple hues with a distinctive yellow patch, varying in intensity. Though they can have a little bit of variance in their shades or purple, and the intensity of the yellow on their backs.

• Legs: White.

• Claws: Light purple to dark purple.

• Eyes: Bright yellow.

• Underside: Brown, black, or shades of purple.

• Size: Typically 6-7 cm (2.5 to 3 inches) including legs; body size around 2-2.5 cm (0.8-1 inch).
