Chinese Big headed Turtle (Platysternon megacephalum) is a rare species of turtle from southern China. The head of the big-headed turtle is so large that it cannot retreat into the shell. To protect itself, it has an armored head and sharp beak.

Active during the day and night, the giant-headed turtle appears to prefer spending most of its time in streams and pools found in clear, fast-flowing mountain streams. They are very good at climbing using their strong legs and stiff tails as support.

Adult shell color: Dark brown or deep green

Adult size: Shell length between 15 – 25 cm

Temp: 18 – 26 °C

Diet: Insects, fish, crab, fruits, fallen leaves
