Description

Neosarmatium smithi, is a swimming crab species in the genus Neosarmatium. Distributed all over marine and brackish waters of Indo-West Pacific regions.

Habitat & Ecology:

• Habitat: Mangrove ecosystems, brackish shores, and near estuarine zones, typically at depths ranging from 0 to 30 m.

• Behavior: Collects fallen mangrove leaves and drags them into burrows to decompose before feeding. This leaf-processing habit plays a key role in mangrove detritus recycling.
