Description

Tuerkayana magnum (Ng & Shih, 2014) is a sizeable land crab within the family Gecarcinidae, newly placed in the genus Tuerkayana following a taxonomic revision in 2018. Commonly referred to as the Giant Orange-legged Crab, this species features a broad carapace—up to about 90 mm in width—paired with legs that range from light orange-brown to vivid cinnabar red and are covered in short, dense hairs.

Tuerkayana magnum typically inhabits drier, karstic environments on Christmas Island, digging burrows often situated adjacent to rocks and noticeably distant from surface water sources.
