Description

The Orange Disco Vampire Crab (Geosesarma tiomanicum) is a small, very colorful, semi-terrestrial species that is native to Java, Indonesia. It inhabits forest areas near streams, rivers, and ponds. It spends most of its time on land, but also often submerges in freshwater, including when it molts. It is communal with its own species, and males typically are larger than females, and also have much larger claws.

Appearance:

• Coloration: Typically orange‑salmon carapace and legs, often with a purple underside near the claws. Claws are vivid purple, and eyes are bright orange‑red—colors deepen under strong lighting.

• Carapace size: Around 10–11 mm, with full leg span reaching up to ~5 cm (2 inches) in adults, making it one of the larger Geosesarma species until others were described.

• Behavior: Largely nocturnal or crepuscular, though captive-bred individuals may display more daytime activity.
