Description

The Coffee Brown Crab (Nanhaipotamon guangdongense [Shanwei]) is a freshwater crab endemic to Shanwei, Guangdong Province, China, lives in moist burrows along low-mountain and hilly streambanks and is exceptionally land-adapted, able to survive away from open water for extended periods. Highly territorial and best kept singly, it thrives in a paludarium with deep, damp soil and a shallow water dish, where it hunts shrimp larvae and other small invertebrates yet will also graze on tender plant leaves. Males are typically larger than females and bear much larger claws, underscoring the species’ pronounced sexual dimorphism.
