Keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii) Chinese subspecies – CB

Keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii) is a rare species from southern China.

The upper shell (carapace) of the keeled turtle has three large raised ridges with a serrated rear end. The lower shell (plastron) is a different shade of brown, from light to dark brown. The upper jaw is strong and the snout is short and curved. The feet are only partially webbed, indicating a terrestrial rather than an aquatic lifestyle.

Common names: keel-backed terrapin, jagged-shelled turtle, and Mouhot’s turtle.

Adult size: Shell length between 14 – 18 cm

Temp: 20 – 30 °C

Diet:  fruits, insects, worms, snails, and other meat

Habitat: terrestrial
